“They’re afraid to be Jewish”

  • ‘What the hell Is happening in America?' These are the words of Holocaust survivor Barbara Bendler Steinmetz. She escaped the Nazis as a child and is now 88. Steinmetz became the victim of a firebomb attack in the USA recently. 'People are afraid to wear a Star of David. They’re taking down mezuzahs. They’re afraid to be Jewish,’ she said. After escaping the Holocaust so many years ago, Steinmetz once again found herself facing violent hatred—this time on the streets of the United States. She was among 12 people injured in a firebomb attack carried out by an Egyptian assailant in Boulder, Colorado, during a march to raise awareness for hostages held in Gaza.

  • “There will be another Holocaust—this time on the soil of the Land of Israel. This is, in fact, a way to deprive the Jewish nation of the means to defend itself, means we so lacked during the long years of exile and the period of the Holocaust.” These were the statements of Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar following threats from several European leaders to impose sanctions, including an arms embargo, in response to Israel’s ongoing campaign to eliminate Hamas. “If these initiatives are successful, Israel will simply be eliminated,” he said.

  • “In 2024, antisemitic incidents in the United States rose for the fourth consecutive year, reaching 9,354 total incidents—the highest level ever recorded in the 46-year history of ADL's Audit of Antisemitic Incidents.” These are the findings of ADL, who since 1979 have published an annual Audit of Antisemitic Incidents in USA.
